It is achieved by an infusion of water and finely chopped almonds.
It is a refreshing drink and is served, especially in summer, very cold or frozen as granita. Besides that, almond milk can be used for the preparation of ice coffee and other soft drinks.Shake before use. Serve cold. Refrigerate after opening the container, and consumme within 2-3 days. The presence of any lumps of almond fat is due to the authenticity of the product and does not affect the quality.
Make a granita! It's easy, delicious and refreshing. How to make it: add 200 gr. of sugar to a quarter of almond milk. Place in an ice cream maker for about 20-25 minutes. If you do not have an ice cream maker, place the blend in the freezer in a shallow metal container. Make sure you regularly scrape the bottom and sides of the the container as soon as it begins to freeze. Repeat until the liquid reaches a creamy consistency. All you need now it's a pair of sun glasses - enjoy!
The almond milk is a traditional Sicilian non-alcoholic beverage (widespread also in Calabria, Basilicata, Campania and Puglia).
Its production is very old and it was first tested in the monasteries. In the Middle Ages the composition of almond milk (as a product from the fruit of a plant) made it particularly suitable for consumption during Lent. Almond milk (unsweetened) was also a staple in the medieval Christian and Muslim kitchen, because cow's milk, which doesn't have a long shelf life, was usually transformed into more durable dairy products straight away (such as fermented milk or cheese). It was popular in Asia, where the almond tree has its root.
